Working in Torpoint
Local builders and groundworkers serving Torpoint
We work out of North Treviddo Farm, Horningtops, Liskeard, PL14 3PS, which keeps Torpoint inside our normal working area for site visits, plant movements and day-to-day supervision.
Torpoint and the Rame Peninsula sit at the south-eastern corner of Cornwall, facing Plymouth Sound across the Tamar. We work throughout Torpoint, Antony, Millbrook, Kingsand, Cawsand, Crafthole and Portwrinkle, and it is a straightforward run for us from Horningtops.
The area has a distinctive building stock shaped by its naval and coastal history: Georgian and Victorian terraces in Torpoint laid out on a grid, service and post-war housing, older cottages packed tightly into Kingsand and Cawsand, and exposed coastal properties along the cliffs towards Whitsand Bay and Portwrinkle. Behind that lies farmland and rural housing across the peninsula.
Our work here covers refurbishments and structural repair on older terraces, extensions and conversions, drainage renewal, retaining walls on the peninsula's many steep plots, patios, steps and parking areas, and complete new builds and plot groundworks.
Exposure is the defining local factor. Properties along this coast take the full weight of south-westerly weather off the Channel, so render, pointing, roofs and external structures wear faster and repairs need to be specified for the environment. Combined with steep, narrow village streets, it makes for work where method and materials matter as much as price.

Why clients in Torpoint use CC Construction Ltd
Verified cover, real local experience and one person answerable for the job from start to finish.
Comfortable on exposed coastal sites
Weather-driven decay needs the right specification, not a cosmetic fix. We repair and rebuild with materials and detailing chosen for a coastal environment, and we sequence external work around workable weather.
Tight village streets are routine
Kingsand, Cawsand and the older Torpoint streets do not allow big plant or casual deliveries. We plan machine sizes, material handling and timings at the site visit and price accordingly.
Full-build capability with one contact
Groundworks, structure, roofing, carpentry and finishes handled by our own team of 15–25 people, with vetted subcontractors for specialist trades managed directly by Calum.
Insurance and site management in place
£5 million public liability, £10 million employers' liability, Contractors' All Risks cover, CPCS-ticketed plant operators and SMSTS site management.
Local conditions
Problems we see regularly in Torpoint
Ground, weather, access and building age vary hugely across Cornwall and Devon. These are the issues that come up most often in and around Torpoint.
Wind and salt damage to render, pointing and roofs
Exposed elevations lose mortar, render and fixings far faster than inland properties. Patching over failing render traps moisture and makes it worse; the right approach is removing what has failed, repairing the substrate and re-detailing for the exposure.
Shallow footings in older terraces
Georgian and Victorian terraces sit on stone footings with next to no concrete, and they are joined to their neighbours. Adjacent excavation must be staged in short propped bays with building control inspecting before pouring.
Steep plots and unengineered retaining walls
The peninsula is steep, and a great many garden and drive walls were built without drainage or design. Water pressure eventually wins. Rebuilding properly means engineered retention with drainage and free-draining backfill.
Surface water and run-off on coastal slopes
Heavy rain on steep ground moves fast and finds openings. New hard surfaces need designed drainage and legitimate outfalls, or they simply relocate the problem to the property below.
Old drainage in tightly built villages
In Kingsand and Cawsand especially, drainage is old, altered and frequently shared, with limited space to work. We trace routes before digging and re-lay in modern pipework to correct falls where the existing system has failed.
How we work
How a job in Torpoint runs
The same five stages on every project, whether it is a concrete base or a complete new build.
Step 1
Free site visit
Calum comes out to the property himself, walks the ground with you and looks at access, levels, existing drainage and where plant can realistically get in. There is no charge for the visit and no obligation afterwards.
Step 2
Scope and written quote
You get a written quote that sets out what is included, what is excluded and how the work will be sequenced. We price fixed price, cost-plus or labour-only, whichever suits the job and how you want to buy it.
Step 3
Approvals and programme
On notifiable work we handle the building control side and can put planning applications in for you. Once approvals are in place we agree a start date, a programme and any stage payments. A deposit is not normally required.
Step 4
Work on site
Our own team of 15–25 people carries out the work, with CPCS-ticketed plant operators and SMSTS site management. Where specialist trades are needed we bring in vetted subcontractors that Calum manages directly, so you still deal with one contractor.
Step 5
Inspection, sign-off and handover
Levels, falls and drainage runs are checked before anything is covered up, building control inspections are booked at the right stages, and the site is cleared down before handover. On new builds a structural warranty can be arranged.
FAQs
Torpoint questions, answered
Cost, timings, coverage and cover, the things people in Torpoint ask before booking a site visit.
Do you serve Torpoint and the Rame Peninsula?
Yes. Torpoint, Antony, Millbrook, Kingsand, Cawsand, Crafthole and Portwrinkle are all within our regular working area from near Liskeard.
How quickly can you get to Torpoint?
It is a straightforward run for us. Call 07770 946179 or send the job details and Calum will arrange a free site visit and a written quote.
What does refurbishment work cost in Torpoint?
It depends on the extent of repair, structural work, drainage and specification. We look at the property first, then quote in writing on a fixed price, cost-plus or labour-only basis.
Can you work in the narrow streets of Kingsand and Cawsand?
Yes. We plan for small plant, restricted deliveries and hand handling where needed, and we build that into the programme and price rather than discovering it on day one.
Do you repair storm and weather damage on coastal properties?
Yes: render, pointing, structural repair, roofing and external works, specified for coastal exposure rather than patched.
Do you handle building control and planning?
On notifiable work we manage building control and inspections, and we can submit planning applications on your behalf. On new builds a structural warranty can be arranged.
Is emergency availability offered on the Rame Peninsula?
We are not a 24-hour call-out service, but urgent problems such as storm damage, a collapsed drain or a failing wall can often be attended quickly within our hours of Monday to Saturday, 7:30am to 6:00pm.
Will you want a deposit?
Not normally. Larger projects are usually arranged with stage payments agreed in writing before work starts.
Are you insured?
Yes, £5 million public liability, £10 million employers' liability, products liability and Contractors' All Risks cover for contract works, owned and hired-in plant and employees' tools.
Which nearby areas do you also cover?
